PROJECTS

NEW TURF MAINTENANCE FACILITY

I was part of the construction of a new state-of-the-art turf maintenance facility, completed at a cost of $4M. The facility includes cold storage, a specialized mixing building for spraying, as well as break rooms, locker rooms, offices, and a conference room to support the teams day-to-day operations. Additionally, the facility features advanced mechanic lifts to enhance equipment maintenance and ensure the seamless upkeep of the golf course. Paired with the facility is a seven bedroom dormitory and a two bedroom apartment to house employees.

BUNKER RENOVATION

I was involved in a comprehensive bunker renovation project that included the installation of 150,000 sq. ft. of Better Billy Bunker Liners to improve drainage and durability. We used 4,000 tons of new angular sand, specifically chosen for enhanced playability and consistency. This renovation significantly upgraded the course’s bunkers, providing players with a more reliable and high-quality playing experience.

GIL HANSE RENOVATIONS

I was able to work with Gil Hanse on renovations throughout all playing surfaces. We installed twelve new tee boxes, each meticulously laser leveled with a one-inch slope for optimal surface drainage. The renovations also included changing parts of the irrigation system to enhance proper coverage and strategically adding bunkers to increase the course's challenge and visual appeal. These upgrades reflect a dedicated effort to blend technical precision with thoughtful design, creating a more engaging and enjoyable experience for golfers.

TURFBREEZE FANS

We installed seven Turfbreeze fans to boost air circulation on greens during hot and humid weather. This initiative was aimed at reducing heat stress and improving overall turf quality. We carefully positioned the fans across the course in areas where we saw the least air movement and undertook extensive trenching to establish the necessary power connections.

CONCRETE PAD

We constructed a 10,000 sq. ft. concrete pad dedicated to the storage of sand and soil. The pad includes five bins designated for topdressing sand, divot mix, and bunker sand, effectively segregating these materials to minimize contamination before they are applied on the golf course. The new pad significantly enhances the efficiency of material handling and ensures the quality and integrity of the products used on the course.

POND AERATORS

I oversaw the installation of six aerators in our irrigation pond to enhance water quality and support a healthier ecosystem. This upgrade aims to reduce algae growth, improve overall water conditions, and create a more balanced environment for both plants and wildlife.

NEW IRRIGATION SYSTEM

Currently, I am working on the installation of a new Rainbird irrigation system, a comprehensive project valued at $5.5M. This advanced two-wire system includes the installation of new pump houses and pump stations, alongside all necessary parts and labor. This upgrade is designed to enhance the efficiency and precision of water distribution across the course, ensuring optimal conditions for turf health and sustainability.

As golf courses mature, things change. In order to keep things fresh and new, construction, renovation, and restoration projects need to be carefully planned for the future success of any club. Over the years I have been involved with many projects. Below are a few of many capital improvements during my turfgrass management career:
